Any ideas? Stock B18C1 and tranny. No mods. 45,000 miles.

    Thanks. Tom

I've had same problem on a couple Honda's I've owned (GSR & Civic). Especially when de-accelerating in low gear. This problem started >100K miles for me. I never fixed problem and the tranny never broke down, even after >190K on both cars. Good luck.

Could it be a clutch problem?

It happenned to me but only in 1st and 2nd. It was a bearing failure. I bet that when you engage in first, you can feel your stick move in your hand.

Check your lube level and condition. It sounds more like a transmission problem. The only way the clutch could cause this problem is if all of the springs were broken. You would hear/feel the disc banging around if that were true.

    Question

The tranny only had 40k when I got it, but the clutch slips a lot. I just changed the tranny fluid a few months ago, using 5/30 castrol non-syth. When I drained the old fluid, it looked good, but smelled like gear lube, gl5 or something.

Would gear lube cause a problem? What makes a tranny pop out of gear like that?

    Thanks,
    Tom

Just a reminder, factory manual fluid smells like gear oil but is NOT gear oil. It's a blend of oils. If your car had gear oil in it, you would know. It will eat up EVERY bearing in the tranny. Bring it down to the shop and we'll check it out.
